Creating your Layout – Part 1

Head over to https://app.contributesignage.com and log into your account.

From the Dashboard menu, choose the “Create Signage” option.

From the “Create Signage” page, you need to add a new layout. First you need to give your layout a name so we are going to use “TouchIT Training” as the name of the layout.

You then need to select a template format for the layout, we are going to choose the “Left Widget + Canvas” option.

Now we need to click on the “Save and Continue” button. This will take you into the main editor. On the right hand side of the page is the toolbar, the main section of the canvas is next and on the left hand side is a space for the “widgets” to be added.

The first thing we are going to do is set the resolution of the signage layout that we are going to create. The reason that we do this is that we want to match the resolution of the playback device we are going to use. In this example, we will use a Full HD resolution layout in landscape. If you know that the resolution of your display is different to this, you can make the changes by using the preset drop downs or chose custom and enter your dimensions. If you are not sure, just leave it as HD as the layout will scale.

Next, we’re going to start by adding some widgets. Click on the widget icon, click on add date, add time and enter a twitter user if you would like or if you dont have one, why not use ours – TouchIT_tech. Click Add and you will see that the widget area on the left hand side will populate.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the toolbar, you will see the option to enter the weather for your town or city. If you start to type your location it will be found, you can select it and then Add it to your widget area.

You will also see the options for a news feed (we’ll look at this later on) and there are also options of embed Youtube links or Vimeo links into your widget area too. Video is best when it is embedded so that is why you dont add these to the canvas itself. Best practice is that you upload your video to your media library and then add it as an object to the canvas – we’ll be doing this tomorrow.

You don’t need to create your signage in a single sitting, so now we are going to save what we have done so far so we can complete it in the next session. At the top of the toolbar, you want to click on the save icon. This will take you back to the main screen where your layouts will be listed. Your work has been saved.
