Schedules

We need to open the Schedules section of the portal by clicking on this icon.

Now that we have created a layout and we have already added a playback device onto the portal, then published a layout through a channel to that device, we need to take a look at how we can automate what is playing on the playback device and when. In order to do that, we need to create a schedule.

When you create your schedule for the purpose of this training, you are going to need to use some times and days that are appropriate to when you are taking this training. For example, if you are taking this on a Tuesday at 10am, there is no point in setting your schedule for Thursday at 5pm to turn on as you will have an awfully long wait! Be sensible here. Also, please note that the times you are choosing are the times as defined by the timezone on the playback device. If you are not sure what this is, if you turn your channel off in the channel section of the portal, you will be able to see the playback device and its associated timezone like below. In our example, our playback device is set with a Europe/London time zone.

OK, let’s go ahead and create a schedule to turn on our layout. Before we do, make sure that your channel is switched off in the Channels section of the online portal. It should have the red icon next to it. as below.

Head over to the Schedules section of the Online Portal.

First, we are going to call our schedule TouchIT Training. You will see that you are able to set schedules for Channels as well as groups, but in this instance, we are going to create a schedule just for a single playback device, the one that we have added during this training. In the Playback Device, select the device you have added and then choose your TouchIT Training layout. The times that you set now are going to depend what time it is that you are doing this training. I would suggest setting on the Start time to 2-3 mins ahead of where you are now and the End time 5 mins after that. Select all the days and then turn your schedule on. Make sure that your playback App is maximised so it is showing the “Registered” message and then wait. At your chosen time, your layout will turn on, play for 5 minutes, then turn off.

Well done, you have created your first schedule. You can experiment with loading different layouts on different times and days, or even scheduling channels to start at set times. Please note, schedules will over-ride if a channel is turned on and a schedule is active. Therefore, if you have Layout A playing, but Layout B is set on a schedule to play, Layout B will replace Layout A until the scheduled time has ended.

Happy Scheduling!
