We’ve already established that “Playback Devices” is the name that we give to the computer or device that is connecting to your TV, Monitor or Display to “play back” the signage that you create online. The number of Playback Devices that you have have depends on the license that you have purchased. Generally, you would assign a computer permanently to a screen to playback your signage, you would not be using your day to day computer for Digital Signage.
In this session, we’ll look at what we need to do to Download, Configure and add our Playback Devices to the Web Control Panel.
We’re going to assume that you are using your own devices so you are going to be installing one of the playback apps. If you have purchased one or more of our Contribute Digital Signage Players, you can skip the download and install instructions, are move straight to configuring the device.
From the Online Portal, you need to download the playback apps.
You need to select the App for the type of device that you are going to be using. Once you have downloaded the App, you need to install it. Double click on the download to start this process.
When the App is installed, and your device is connected to the Internet (please note, this is a must even if you have one of the Signage Players from TouchIT Technologies) you will see this prompt where you need to enter you ZIP code (this gives you the ability to track on a map the location of your devices) and also the name of the device.
The name that you give the device is the name that appears in the Online Portal – it is best to give it something descriptive so you can easily identify it. For example “XYZ School Lobby”
Once you have entered your zip, given your device a name and you are connected to the internet, you will get a unique ID that looks something like this.
(**Normally, you would not install this playback App on your everyday computer. You would be installing It onto a computer that is going to be permanently used for Digital Signage. Therefore, the App is designed to be difficult to close, and it will auto-open when you start your computer. If you want to close the App when you first open it, on Windows, Alt-F4 will close it for you. On MAC you can click on the top bar and select the close option.**)
It is at this point that you need to head over the the online portal at www.contributesignage.com. You need to log into your account that you have already created, and then you can enter your unique ID into the form on the main screen. It will appear in the table below when you have done it successfully.
